Remembering Daniel Thomas Afflitto

Daniel Afflitto lived in Manalapan, New Jersey. He worked on the World Trade Center, Tower 1, on the 104th floor. He died at the age of 32 on September 11th, 2001. Daniel was a dedicated Cantor Fitzgerald Partner, he was always found at his office, after hours, working. He met and hired a trader who later became his wife. People said Daniel loved to show of his large house and was always found having people over, hanging out on his patio, or taking a dip in his swimming pool.
On September 10th, Thomas and his wife were flying home from California, after attending a wedding. His wife wanted to extend their trip but Daniel did not want to miss any work. On the plane, Thomas guessed his wife was pregnant with their second child, but the home pregnancy test, she took that night, turned out negative. On September 12th, Mrs. Afflitto found out that her husband was right and she never got the chance to tell her husband. (legacy.com)
What did I learn from Daniel's story?
I learned from this story that Daniel was a hardworking man who was dedicated to his job. He died on 9/11 because of the loyalty he had for working and making a living for his family. If he would have extended his vacation with his wife he might still be alive today, but that is not something that we should dwell on. He was blessed with 32 years of life, a wonderful wife, and son. Reading his story I could tell that he was a man that lived his life to the fullest. Applying this story to my life, I like to dwell on things that have happened in the past. For some reason I get caught up in regretting something that I did or did not do among other things.  Like Daniel's family they had a choice to mourn their loss or use Daniel's story and life motto to carry him with them for many years and that is something I can take from his story and use in my life.

  1. Though all the stories of 9/11 victims are sad. T his one has struck me as the most saddening. It really sucks that he never got a chance to learn something that would have been life changing for him.

  2. Very sad to see a man perish only because he was so determined to work for his family. Daniel seemed like a very caring father and I wish that he could have only met his second child.

  3. This is a great tribute to this man. I have some friends that like Daniel, are pretty wealthy. They are so generous with their friends and even though I can't help but feel jealous sometimes, I love people like that. Hard workers who aren't greedy or selfish or anything, but simply are made that way and share their love with everyone they meet. I hope his wife will take consolation that her husband did live life to the fullest, and that she will never forget the love he showed her.

  4. This is very sad, for him to never know he was going to have a second child and to pass away before ever seeing it really must make it very hard on his wife to take care of the kids. He seems like a very good worker.

  5. I can tell he was a great man. He sounds like a great husband, father and worker. All he probably wanted to do was provide for his family and give them the best life they can have, and in that pursuit he became a casualty of the attack.
