The story of Ling Young affected me the most. To hear her describe what happened that day when she was in the building on the 78th floor sent shivers down my spine. Knowing that she was able to survive all that is amazing! Then in the years to follow she had so many complications and surgeries to overcome and had to learn how to adapt to not having the mobility she was used to. Having over 40 surgeries she never gave up hope and kept a positive attitude about all the surgeries, helping heal her burns and head injuries. Ling Young's statement "I feel hopeless" really struck me, seeing her arms and head burned looked so painful and gave me a sense of hopelessness, but somehow Ling overcame that feeling and is now living her life the best she can. It gives me hope to keep pushing through life when I am in an difficult, emotional situation.
I enjoyed the time-lapse structure of the film. It give the video a special meaning using the time-lapse structure. Using that format we were able to see how long these people were really affected by this event. It took some of them over 7 years to get over what happened and to let go of their loved ones that died. I can not even imagine what those five people and all the other family members and friends of the 3,000 victims of 9/11 went through. I think that using this structure was a strength. It gave all the Americans, in an hour, a glimpse of what their pain was. Not just in the days to follow but in the several years to come. I did not personally know anyone that died in 9/11, this movie gave me a just a little sense of the endless pain that they all went through.
The important thing I took away from this movie was the fact that when people endure a pain like this it may take time, meaning years, but in the end, we have to get back on our feet after falling down and learn to love again and keep going on with life. Moving on with life is a good thing, but never forgetting is the most important thing.
I believe that the attack had a huge impact on her because she had a constant reminder of what happened on her skin and couldn't escape it. Also since she couldn't use her arm would later make her feel worse because at first she could, and she would now miss being about to function fully.
ReplyDeleteHer story was had an impact on me as well. I think it is so awesome how Ling was able to keep a positive attitude throughout the years of the film. I also agree with your statement of never forgetting is the most important thing. This is something we should keep in mind whenever we look back at past events or history.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Kishan says about her constant reminder. her burns are never going to go away and she has to live with the physical destruction of that day, its not something she can easily push to the back of her mind and forget, she sees her scars each day and remembers what she had to go through to survive.
ReplyDeleteI find it amazing just how lucky she was to be alive and have a caring family that helped her through her recovery every step of the way. I also found my self laughing with her at times when she realized she needed to make the most of her life and it showed the clip of her showing off her baby. The time lapse helped show just how much of a change she made, going from completely hopeless to happy to just be alive.
