Remembering Salvatore Papasso

Salvatore Papasso was a 34 year old tax fraud investigator so he dealt with a lot of underground crime. On 9/11 he was in the second tower that got hit. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in philosophy from St. John's University. While he was in school he was an active member of Alpha Upsilon fraternity. His wife actually went to the same school but they didn't end up meeting each other until seven years later and got married in May 2000. I guess fate plays a part in all of our lives. It's unfortunate they didn't get to enjoy married life longer than only a year and half. He was said to be helping others evacuate the building when the second plane hit. Surviving are his two parents, Salvatore and Theresa, and his brother, Vincent and Thomas. He and his wife had no children yet. He was a fun-loving family man, a jokester, and the center of attention. He enjoyed golf and following hockey. His best friend was his dalmatian, Spot. niece actually just wrote President Obama asking him to not go to war.  What's more inspiring to me out of everything, is that he was helping others out of the building. He lost his life to save others. He's a hero.

I learned from Sal's story that no matter what predicament you find yourself in, it's always best to help other people the best you can. Live life to the fullest, don't take people for granted, smile at a stranger, it's the little things in life that make the big things in life matter. Tomorrow isn't promised. Even when I'm mad at a family member, I never leave or hang up the phone without saying I love you. This story reassures me of why I do that.

  1. Very sad after fate brought them together they didn't even have the chance to start a family but hopefully the lives he saved will lead happy lives, a true hero.

  2. That is really sad that Salvatore was not able to be with his wife for more than about a year and a half. It was very heroic that he was helping others evacuate the building when the tower was hit. It's events like theese that give you a more open perspective on life and living it to the fullest.

  3. This is a very tragic situation only being married a year and a half before passing away. Fate had for sure played a great deal in these men and women, perhaps it was fate that they did not have any kids, leaving no child to not have a dad while growing up.

  4. I find it amazing that his niece wrote a letter to Obama to not go to war. A person directly effected by this does not want to punish the other side, she just wants the violence to stop.
