I learn best by buckling down and focusing on the task at hand. I have to remove a majority of the distractions around me, except music. Music helps me focus as long as it's not something that I will sing along to. Therefore, I usually end up listening to electronic or sometimes even ambient music. A learning story i remember pretty well is when I first started taking German. I was pretty bad at German, and I kind of expected it because German was said to be the hardest of the languages that people took in High school. However, after getting some poor grades on assessments and quizzes, I decided to use flash cards. I hated making and using flash cards because making the cards seemed like a waste of time instead of actually studying. Instead, the flash cards turned out to be extremely useful and my grade in German went up very quickly.
For me the purpose of getting an education is simply to secure a successful life for me. I am neither enthusiastic about learning, nor do I think it is a waste of time. It is just another part of my life that I must do such as eating or sleeping. As for my future, I like to think that, if I get a good education, I am setting myself up for a good future and a happy life.
Most of what you said is exactly the same for me, except I took Spanish instead of German. It's really funny to find out how alike most of us are right now. :) I used to hate flashcards because I thought they took too much time to make and now I use them all the time for things I want to remember. Music is also pretty great. I enjoy electic too, but I really love soundtracks.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the music aspect that you said, I personally enjoy violin covers of songs of just instrumentals, if there are lyrics i get to caught up in them. Also when you have your grade on the line i believe that is when you really realize hoe to study, so its good you figured it out before college.
ReplyDeleteFlash cards always seem to be the tool that works a lot. I, too, do not enjoy doing them but writing down the information helps a lot and forcing yourself to read and memorize the cards helps, too.
