Exploration Four
The story that I took most to heart was that of Nick Chirls. His story of losing his mother and just having to be on his own was very powerful. The fact that his father had kicked him out of the house so that him and his sister could both heal in their own way, despite the way that that his father needed to heal. The most dramatic part of his story, the most powerful or moving, was at his mothers funeral when he first says the word "Mother", the baby sparrow lands on his head and lets Nick pick it up and hold it in his hand. Seeing his healing process throughout the eight years was definitely a strength of this film.

Watching the video of Nick talking at his Mom's funeral and seeing the bird land on his head when he said that one word, "Mother". That scene was incredible! Just the symbol of the bird I think helped reassure Nick. It was a sign from his Mother that everything was going to be okay.
ReplyDeleteThough Nick's story was pretty sad, i think we made some bad choices. I think an important of recovery is learning to let go. When he decided to work on wall street like his mother, he became MORE connected to her which just made him more depressed. If I was in his shoes, though I would want to remember my mother, I would want to feel less connected to her so I could move on. Of course this is easier said than done.
ReplyDeleteThat bird thing was really creepy. I'm a Christian, so I do believe in the supernatural, but the seeing something like that make me wonder if it really is something else. Why else would the bird land on his head? I don't know, it's weird. :) I really liked his character too. He went through a really interesting journey but still ended up on his own feet.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it was a strange and possibly moving event with the bird landing on his head.
