Grapes of Wrath reaction and 2 research topics

The Grapes of Wrath is enjoyable so far.  The topic of the Great Depression is such an interesting topic in American history.  It is very interesting how the protagonist in the story is a murderer.  Typically one sees the main character as a "good guy", or someone who has a quality like being really smart or nice or gets picked on. But seeing the protagonist as a confident criminal throws someone off a bit, but nonetheless it is intriguing.  The story has very good sense detail, especially when describing the setting in the first couple chapters.  One interesting quote in the story is when Steinbeck writes, “There ain't no sin and there ain't no virtue. There's just stuff people do.”  (Steinbeck 52)  It signifies Casy does not care about living a life about preaching anymore.  This is an important part of the story and character development.

(Two facts)
1. things named after President Hoover:
-Hoovervilles: shantytowns
-Hoover Stew: food from soup kitchens
-Hoover Blankets: newspapers (that served as blankets)
-Hoover Hogs: Jackrabbits used as food
-Hoover Wagons: Broken cars pulled by mules

2.(scholars estimate) nearly 50% of children during the Depression hid not have adequate food, shelter, and medical care.
