Lieutenant Colonel David M. Scales was a 44 year old colonel
with the Army Reserve who always put his family first. He was reading an email
from his wife in Arizona minutes before his office in the Pentagon was
destroyed. Colonel Dan Blakeney described David Scales as “an extremely
professional, dedicated officer. He was well known in the Washington area army
reverse community”. He graduated with a degree in Music Composition from the
University of Cincinnati. He also graduated from Southern Illinois University
with a MBA. In 1979 he was an ambulance platoon leader in South Korea. In Korea
he received Legion of
Merit and Purple Heart medals, the Army Commendation Medal and the National
Defense Service, Medal. The colonel’s wife described him as “a loving,
faithful husband and a dedicated father who always found the silver lining in
every dark cloud”. The most interesting thing I found out of the colonel was
that he received a lot of medals and he deserved a lot more than the medals. He
was a true war hero and he died with honor. I learned from this story to always
work the hardest and not give up. David Scales' coworkers thought of him as
someone to look up to and he was always professional. I can give pride in
everything that I do and that can result in honor.

The victim I researched was also ex-military. Clearly this man did many wonderful things and was passionate. It is pretty saddening when you lose such heros.
ReplyDeleteI think that the pentagon attack is something that people forgetting about when people think about the events that happened on 9/11. This is sad because most of the people that died were in the military and deserved to be remembered just as much. David sounds like a very good person that did not deserve what happened to him on that day.
ReplyDeleteThe amount of achievements that he received show how hard working he is. We need more people like him.
