1. The ending of this book was a rebirth of the land in my opinion. As the rain fell on the land and go absorbed into the ground, this was the land being nurtured again. Then the flood was a cleansing of the land to whip away a lot of the harmful infections that have been living on it. Then in this sense the final act of the story goes hand in hand with the rebirth. The dying man at the end of the story could be a representation of the land. As the dying man had given up everything for his child, the land gave up everything for the people living on it. Then as Rose of Sharon nurtured the man back to health, the land itself was getting better.
3. The story of the Joads shows a life of struggle, and a quality family falling apart through struggle. This is an important story to remember because this story shows hard ships of a family during terrible times, but it tells us to always look forward and hope for the best. Also the brutality of the police is one of the most important things to take away from this because at this time to police were corrupt, and it should be made that this never happens again. Also monopolies is the biggest economical event that should be taken away from this. Because of these the land become dry and ruined, people were forced to leave, and the largest depression in history took place. Now we have safety procedures to protect against this, but this is one thing that can never happen again if we want to keep our way of life.

1. That was probably one of the most probable reasons for the end scene. It all makes sense, with the short chapter dedicated to representational language and the whole writing style. This is a great theory as to the end of the book and if anyone asks me to tell them what it means, this is what I'm gonna tell them from now on. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the way you interpret the ending of the novel. The land is always portrayed as a dying, suffering characters. The rain could symbolize the rebirth of land and it could mean that everything will get better for the Joads.
ReplyDeleteThis helped me understand the ending of the book more. I was a little caught off Gard by it and a little confused. I didn't not like the ending, i think when a author ends the book in a way that no one predicted was coming that just shows that they are a truly talented writer.
