I was in shock when I read the ending of the book. But, I think what Rose of Sharon did was very humble and kind of her. I'm not exactly sure why her smile was "mysterious" but I think it may have been that she enjoyed it because it was what she was supposed to do for her baby that was stillborn. I think the end was just supposed to show how people change through different times and situations
I see a bright future for the Joads. The family's character was strong so I have no doubt that they would have had a positive future. They will survive with the skills they have earned with their hard work and determination. I think they will have a turn around with their situation and everything will be OK for them.
I agree with how her smile may have been out of enjoyment for the fact that because she had lost her baby she will not get to experience that feeling any other way. I also agree with how even though times wont be easy, they will be able to get through them because they already know what to expect.
