The final chapter to was shocking and completely unexpected. Rose of Sharon's final actions we're incredibly caring as she saves a mans life and left me with just an awe struck feeling as it really puts you in the position to think what some of these people had to do just to survive. Ma Joad definitely took charge and found shelter for everyone and acted as a guardian. I believe her smile is described as mysterious because she had just lost a child and now a stranger has taken place of the child. I believe the Joads will carry on with Ma Joad leading them and Rose will also be a strong supportive role as she saved a mans life and has completely changed as a character throughout the novel. The Joads will find work and Ma Joad will make sure everyone remains strong. From this novel we can see the importance of self sacrifice as almost every single character at one point or another puts their life behind another in order to aid them. I believe Casy defended this theme more than anyone in the novel, as he gives his life for the people he was fighting for, he tried so hard to fight for equality and is killed because of it so Tom Joad does the honorable thing and continues Casy's legacy. I believe we will remember the Joads because it is a story that anyone could relate, imagine if your family went through the same struggles as the Joads, how would they act? We also see how this disaster brings out people's true self through their actions.
