I think Gangsters from the depression era would be an interesting topic to do research on to learn about the beginnings of "gangsters", which we still see in our culture today.  Plus, there are many interesting people that go along with the early gangsters.  Prohibition is exciting as well because it is an important part of America's history that created much controversy.  I also don't know a whole lot about the dust bowl in the 30's, and from reading the Grapes of Wrath it seems like a topic that was very important in history and something I would like to know more about.
