Oakies

"They hate you 'cause they're scairt. They know a hungry fella gonna get food even if he got to take it. They know that fallow lan' s a sin an' somebody' gonna take it." (Steinbeck 262) I chose this quote because it shows the new conflict that the Joads never would imagine that they would have to face. In this chapter they being to face discrimination because of where they are from. The officer calls them oakies and angers Ma so much that she almost strikes the policeman.
Tom tells Ma that Noah is not coming with them. Then she says that the "family's fallin' apart." (Steinbeck 276) this is a huge event because another family member is leaving and the Pa Joad believes it is all his fault. I believe that wisdom is experienced and knowledge is learned. A person can teach you anything in the world yet that cannot give you the experience or wisdom of an event they have made it through. I believe knowledge can be passed on yet wisdom can only be learned by the beholder.
