"a different times comin"
At this point I can relate to Preacher Casey, because he constantly questions himself and what is going on around him just as I would given the same situation. I also think he is a really great guy and gives his freedom up for Tom Joad, I think the biggest conflict is trying to find work for the Joads because if they can't find steady work or somewhere to live soon they may lose more family members. Never in American history have families been forced to work so hard and Ma Joad states "A different times a comin'" (Steinbeck 230). I definitely see the theme of self sacrifice throughout the story especially when Casey gives up his freedom for Tom, and the way the Joads have gone out of their way to help their old friends along the trail. Today this theme is still very prevalent when it comes to the army giving their lives for us. Giving one's life for another is the greatest sacrifice one person can make.
