I liked the video of one of the famous quotes of the time. The quote brings out what the veterans are feeling during this time. They were treated as heroes, then treated as worthless 15 years later.
ReplyDeleteThe presentation could have been a little clearer at explaining how the government had hoped after not passing the bill that the vets would leave. I feel as if this is a very immoral thing to do at this time, considering our govt will spend money on anything they choose, but not pay the soldiers that protected their power.
I really liked your use of pictures in the presentation: I thought they were used effectively and to make/emphasize your point. Also, I liked how (and this is coincidental), your presentation had a bit to do with mine, so the fact that we presented one after the other was cool.
ReplyDeleteI really did learn some stuff about the bonus army. I did not know that they had to wait till 1945 to get their money, i thought it was only a few years. The power point was good, i liked the design of it. I also liked the pictures that you guys had on there. I the only thing that i noticed during the presentation was that you looked at your note cards a lot but overall it was a good presentation.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed looking at all the images you had on your power point about the bonus army. I also learned that the G.I. Bill came from these men protesting and it was something I never knew before. One thing that you could improve was watching how many um's and like's you say. It is a hard thing not to do when giving a presentation in front of your classmates but with a little practice you can fix that problem. I enjoyed listening to your presentation and found it very interesting, I think all veterans go through a lot to fight for our country and we owe it to them because our freedom is not a privilege.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the presentation, through the use of pictures and the video clip, provided sufficient visual and audio aid throughout to pull attention back towards the presentation. As well as the added comment during the video clip, I felt was a great addition as the clip shifted focus and with the narration in between the shift provided a good summary and transition.
ReplyDelete(+) Great quote from the video, really made me think how could the perception of veterans change that much in such a short time
ReplyDelete(-) Both speakers used "like" and "um" quite a bit, dates were confusing towards the beginning
This presentation was very interesting. I thought that Brian did a excellent job, while Vinnie's part could have been better. They both did a great job, and knew their information. Brian was very enthusiastic, but Vinny may have been reading right off the card. Other than that, i thought that the info was good, and it was well put together.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the presentation and thought you two knew your stuff, I had no idea how it started or how long it lasted, but it seemed like you didn't exactly have everything memorized and seemed to look at your notes a lot.
ReplyDeleteYour presentation was formatted great with the events leading into each other, and good transitions between slides. Also the video that you had was great, especially because it was from the time and showed what was happening and what the people were thinking. I found it shocking how the police burned all the possessions of the people and didn't have any respect for what the people did for our country. Something to work on would have to be to know the events better so the presentation goes smoother, and be more confident in what you are saying.
ReplyDeleteInteresting facts about the Bonus Army. I had never heard of it until today. I like how they talked about it being a peaceful protest until the throwing of a brick. I also like how they gave out facts on the injured ad the fatalities of the march. It was also a really nice thing on how they related it to the occupy wall st. protest, helps paint a clearer picture. A criticism i would say is the presentation should have been broken up a little more. It seemed like Vinnie chimed in with just the little bit at the end.
ReplyDeleteThere appeared to be no Garrison present so my comments will only deal with Brian and Vince.
ReplyDeleteBrian: Your speech gave a good amount of information. You did look at your notes quite a bit, however. It would have helped to have it better memorized. As you went along you got better and started making eye contact, but most people will watch a speech more towards the beginning and then focus on the slides.
Vince: You had a good tone and could be understood. The part I liked about your speech, besides the end, was that you presented it comfortably and with very few verbal pauses like 'um' and even 'and'.
The overall presentation took up most of the allotted time, so good job on that. It also didn't stretch on and on. The video was a little disorienting and I think it could have been better to leave it out and replace it with another 30 seconds of a quotation or something. Other than that, good job!
Positive: I think the best part about this presentation was the things that were included in your power point besides text such as the quotes and images. I think they really helped the audience connect with the topic.
ReplyDeleteNegative: There was some stuttering and "um"s in the speaking.
I had never heard of this presentation before it was mentioned in class so it was good to have details about why this march happened. I liked the video of Walter Waters and his quote. I think this really helped explain why this march took place. I thought it could be better if you explained how it affected individuals more than just the riots. Overall really good public speaking skills from both of you!!
ReplyDeletePositive: The quotes and images that were used really helped the audience connect with the content and topic of the presentation.
ReplyDeleteNegative: There were some speaking errors such as stuttering or using "um."
I think the presenters that were present did a very good job with the presentation. I leared a lot with it including facts about the occupy wall street movement and the fact that a baby died during it was very sad. I guess the only thing that could have been a little bit better was a little but more orginization but other than that, i really enjoyed the presentaion.
ReplyDeleteUntil today I knew very little about the Bonus Army. It was interesting to see how men who were once considered hero's were suddenly treated like scum. I liked how you related it to today. I noticed that the phrase "and stuff like that" was used a lot through out the presentation.
ReplyDeleteI think you guys presented the information very well. I didn't know a lot about the Bonus Army and I learned a lot from your presentation. I learned that there were about 15000 WWI veterans that marched from Oregon to DC. I especially liked the video about Walter Waters and I could see why people would look up to him during that time. Also good connection with recent events like the occupy wall street protest.
ReplyDeleteBefore this presentation I never heard of The Bonus army so it was really interesting to learn all the great stuff. You had great images and you all spoke clearly and well. Great job.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this presentation. It was very informative. I understand that the veterans wanted their money during the depression, however, it seems to me that they would have had to agree to accept their cut in 1945, so I don't think it should have become such a huge ordeal throughout the country. Both presenters did I good job and knew the information well. I wouldn't have used such a long video clip, it kind of stole the show, a shorter one of the "leader" would have been good to show. This presention added on to some minimal things I knew about the bonus army so great job on finding a lot of details!
ReplyDeleteTo start off with, you guys seemed very disorganized. You seemed to use your card quite a bit and there were some verbal pauses that were distracting. This however, is expected when only two people show up to a three person group project. You had good slides to back up the info so this didnt take away much.So good job covering everything. Im glad to learn the bonus army did in fact receive pay before '45. I especially liked the tie in with later marches and protests, as an army of veterans would surly have a huge impact on such things. Just be confident and use good posture when presenting in front of people, it's never as bad as you think it will be. Good job guys
ReplyDeleteI think you did a good job with the sequential order of the bonus army. You gave good background to the cause of it, went through the events during, and the aftermath or result. I didn't know anything about them and now i feel pretty informed.
ReplyDeleteThe positives I found in your presentation were you spoke up so the entire room could hear you, you created a very vivid image of how the protest were, you had excellent pictures/video, and you seemed somewhat nervous but you kept it together in the end. The negatives of your presentation were Garrison didn't show (don't know if that was planned or not), Brian read off the notecard quite a bit, and Vinnie said a lot of "uh's", other than that, great presentation!
