Exploration 5

Chapter 18: Okies in California "Jesus, I'd hate to start out in a jalopy like that. Well you and me got sense. Them goddamn Okies got no sense and no feeling. They ain't human...They ain't a hell of a lot better than gorillas." This part of the story is important because it shows how bad The Joad's want to get into California to find work and start a new life. Although they have met a couple discouraging people on the way, no matter what they are told, they keep trucking on. Another event that struck me in the chapter was when Ma announced that Gramma was dead. Ma knew back at their last campsite that Gramma was really sick, and not going to make it. However, she did not want to break up the family any more. Ma had no control over Noah leaving, but she had some control on getting the entire family across the desert and into the luxurious part of California. Knowledge is what you learn in school like facts and figures, but wisdom is something you obtain from experience. The best place to find some wisdom would be older folks. they have been around and experienced some hardships in life that teenagers/young adults have yet to face. They have a lot of advice to give, and experiences to talk about. I find a lot of wisdom from my grandparents, and parents. When i bought my first car, i took my grandparents along because they have been buying cars be a couple decades now, they know the ins and outs of dealerships, and can sense a scam. i look up to them for advice on a lot of situations that happen in my life.
