Stevy Skillman

Hello everyone,
My name is Stevy Skillman. I'm 25 years old. I just finished serving 5 years in Army in July 2012, where I served 18 months in Iraq. I was a Paratrooper MP stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. I have a younger brother, who is 19, named Derrick. I've traveled to Mexico, Canada, Spain, France, Italy, Kuwait and Iraq. I'm a Junior majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies with a minor in Aviation. I put this class off because my only per-requisite was Sociology 1101 but after taking several classes, I realized this class will be beneficial for my degree classes.
I currently do not have any favorite personal Buckeyes so I did some research. The person I found that was most appealing was Larry Sanger, the co-founder of Wikipedia. Even though, it's not encouraged to use Wikipedia for research purposes, I still find the site to have fun facts. Sanger obtained a Ph.D from OSU in 2000. I also discovered "Lil' Jon" attended OSU. I found this to be more fascinating and funny as opposed to him being my "favorite". For those of you who are unaware of who he is, he is a Rapper and Music Producer. On a different note, I look forward to learning more about each and everyone of you and getting to interact together as a class.

  1. That's awesome you served 5 whole years in the Army! One of my close friends is leaving for the Navy soon. I wish I could travel to the places you've been to; to see the world outside of a textbook.
Co-founder of Wikipedia? That's a really cool Buckeye. OSU is such a great school with such successful graduates. Makes me proud of all of us for getting to where we all are.

  2. Hey Stevy, first of all thank you for your service to this country. What kind of things did you see in Iraq and what do you want to do after college? I agree with you on the Wikipedia thing, Wikipedia is not the most trustful site but it does help you if you need to know basic things like a birthday of a famous person.

  3. Wow you've been a lot of places! I would love to leave the country some day, Italy and Spain would probably be my top two choices. Would they be nice for a vacation? Also I think your major will be an excited and interesting one. I think it's great that you served 5 years in the army, I respect that because I know it is something I could never do. I find it so funny that you found out lil' Jon went to OSU, I would have never guessed that!

    1. Hello Taylor! Italy and Spain were amazing! If you ever get the opportunity sometime, you should definitely go! Just to experience their culture alone was worth the trip!
