The Idea of a Local Economy by Wendell Berry was about how the big corporations are crushing the small businesses. He wants people to follow a local economy and don't buy from big corporations. Local economy means people should buy goods from local business over the corporations. He says that the "enviornment crisis can be solved only if people, individually and in their communities, recover responisibility for their thoughtlessly given proxies. If people begin the effort to take back into their own power a significant portion of their economic responsibitlity, then their inevitable first discovery us that the enviornment criss is no such thing". By this statement, he is saying that if people wanted to fix this problem then they would have fixed it by now.
The United Nations in the 21st century by Kofi Annan talks about the united nations' effort in relieving hunger and establishing peace all over the world. He says in his speech that "the Christian Gospel, which also teaches us to love our enemies and pray for those who wish to persecute us". He names all the religion and how all of the different religions teach us about life and how to act.

I was curious about what the UN exactly deals with. They got the nobel prize for relieving hunger and establishing peace but they have been doing that since they formed and I am curious to know if they have a lot of nobel prizes or if this was their best work.
ReplyDeleteIn The Idea of a Local Economy I don't think he is saying that big business are crushing small business as much as he is saying that we need to become independent from these business because they are ruining the environment.
