Last Blog! :-)

I love the idea of a local economy. "They are trying to learn to use the consumer economies of local towns and cities to preserve the livelihoods of local farm families and farm communities." I for one, am a huge supporter of the local farm markets. Not only does it help the local farms, the majority of their farms aren't industrialized to the extent that companies such as Tyson or Perdue are. They grass feed their animals so they aren't pumped with a bunch of antibiotics and preservatives. Not only is it good for the local economies, it's healthy for the consumers and good for the environment. Just so many small factors come into play as well. The fact that local towns people are interacting like they used to, face-to-face, buying each others product, creates that old communication style that we lack now. For my Nobel Prize reading, I read A Planetary Emergency by Al Gore. He basically got the Nobel Prize for caring about his environment and the pollution that goes into our atmosphere. He doesn't just care what the United States does either, he cares about all the countries on the Earth. I think that says a lot about him as an individual . "The Earth has a fever. And the fever is rising. The experts have told us it is not a passing affliction that will heal itself." I love this quote because it's direct and to the point. Everyone knows what a fever is and that it takes medicine or some TLC to get better. I think this analogy says it all. It said this in reference to the people dumping 70 million tons of global-warming pollution into the atmosphere surrounding our planet. If we don't all come together soon, especially the U.S. and China, it could be the end of Earth and civilization.

  1. I too am a supporter of local farmers. Not just here but also in Georgia and North Carolina. I like to think that I'm supporting a local economy. I too like the idea of a local economy, I think the best idea that comes through that is the money spent there, stays there. Another good point you make for buying locally is they grass feed their animals. I dont think that a lot of the public people know that their animals that come from corporations like Tyson and McDonalds, are fed corn. Most animals such as cows and pigs, dont eat corn.
